Michael Kim joined ESPNEWS, ESPN’s 24-hour sports news network, as an anchor prior to its November 1, 1996, launch. He also contributes as an anchor to ESPN’s SportsCenter.

Kim, who had been at NewsChannel 8 (located in Springfield, Va.) since September, 1991, covered a variety of local sports for the cable station serving the Washington, D.C., area. In 1993, Kim earned a local Emmy for sports reporting from the Capital Region Chapter for a series called Local Heroes, which was also recognized as the “Best Sports Series” by the Society of Professional Journalists. Kim also captured an award from the National Association of Black Journalists for “Best Sports Feature.”

Prior to NewsChannel 8, Kim worked as a sports reporter for KOMU-TV in Columbia, Mo., from June 1990 to September 1991. Born in Columbia, Mo., and raised in Fulton, Mo., Kim earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science and business administration from Westminster College (Fulton) in 1987 and a master of arts degree in journalism from the University of Missouri in 1991.
