This year, KACF supported 21 nonprofit partners with COVID-19 relief and community grants, but did you know that we provide more than just funding? We believe in three ingredients for a nonprofit to best support the most vulnerable among us: funding, knowledge, and community.
We spoke recently with Dr. Young Seh Bae, Founder and President of Community Inclusion and Development Alliance (CIDA), one of our grantee partners, who told us:
“We would not exist without the capacity building training we received from KACF.”
Dr. Bae first came to KACF in 2016 with an idea: a nonprofit organization that supports Korean American individuals with disabilities and their families. From personal experience, she knew these families faced difficulties in accessing disability-related services and advocating for their needs, due to cultural and language barriers.
With the help of KACF’s Capacity Building Program, Dr. Bae developed a roadmap to make this a reality. Now a proud KACF Grantee Partner, CIDA trains parents to be their children’s advocates and creates employment opportunities for people with disabilities, so that they can lead self-determined lives. Equally important, the parents have comfort knowing that their children will have the opportunity to thrive.
CIDA began as an idea. Today, CIDA serves over 300 individuals and families.
Our work has a lasting impact on our community, and it’s especially important today to continue building for the long-term recovery and resilience of those who may be disadvantaged from the pandemic’s effects.
