Over the next two months, the CGC members will be volunteering their time to participate in our grantmaking process, reviewing grant applications, visiting local nonprofit organizations to learn more about their work, and making recommendations for how we invest in our community.
The CGC met in person for the first time this week to get to know each other, get grounded in KACF’s mission, and hear from Korean American nonprofit leaders about their work to address issues of economic insecurity in our community. We were please to welcome Kapsong Kim (Korean American Community Development Director) of the MinKwon Center for Community Action and Becky Belcore (Co-Director) and Jung Woo Kim (Co-Director) of the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium (NAKASEC) to speak about the work being done at both and local and national levels to serve the most vulnerable Korean Americans.
Through the Community Grants Committee, KACF aims to educate and inspire Korean Americans to think more thoughtfully and strategically about how they engage with and give back to their communities. Nearly 300 people have volunteered to participate in our grantmaking process since the CGC was piloted in 2008.
